I wanted them to make eggy low carb muffins in the microwave. ( Search for minute muffins.) They worked well but were difficult to clean. They have to be hand washed because they float around in the dishwasher. I ended up scissoring apart a 6 cup silicon muffin 'tin' and using that instead. Intact, it didn't fit on the microwave carousel. The smooth sides are easier to wash. I will use these colorful ribbed cups now and then because they are smaller, and more fun, but they turned out not to be a perfect solution for my specific needs. Update - I use these all the time now. Soak them, turn them inside out, and rub off any muffin material with your fingers. Then jam them down into the spaces in your dishwasher so they don't float around, and they clean up just fine. I think I assumed they would take on a permanent warp if they were scrunched in the dishwasher, but silicon does not warp. Perfection would be if nothing ever stuck to them, but that's impossible.
