Review: A good sensor for your Ring security system. - Bought to monitor a access point door. It integrated with the existing Ring system really easily. It was just a matter of going into the Ring app and scanning the QR code to link the device to the existing hub. Then just remove the plastic which was stopping the battery from powering up the sensor. It was easy to fit into place. You just need to hold the sensor and contact in place for a couple of seconds to ensure it has stuck well to the surface. Also need to make sure the sensor and contact are not too far apart. So far the battery life seems to be quite good. The sensor has been installed for several months now and the battery still has plenty left. I did disable the light on the sensor within the Ring app which probably helps save a small amount of battery life as the little LED in the sensor doesn't light up. The signal from the sensor easily reaches the Ring hub which is probably 5 meters or so away and though a couple of walls. The hub reports the sensor signal as at maximum strength. It is quite expensive for a sensor, but then it is part of an investment into the whole Ring security system. It is also of a high quality of manufacture, and I haven't had any problem with any sensors I've installed so far. As you can see from the rest of the review, you do need a Ring hub for the sensor to connect to and install the Ring app to connect the device to the hub. Overall a good quality and reliable sensor with no false positives so far.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How can I replace the defective sensor?**
A: Check battery.
Is it in warranty?
If all else fails, time for a new one.

**Q: Can this be linked to the outside ring floodlight siren? so if the contact breaks, the outdoor siren will go off? thanks!**
A: not without the alarm system

**Q: Do these have a shock sensor, or just contact?**
A: There are two types of sensors.
1. Contact, for doors and windows
2. PIR for movement

**Q: Would this work ok on the INSIDE of a shed door?**
A: In principle there’s no reason why it won’t work in a shed, however you need to consider;

1.	It’s not intended for ‘out-door’ use, e.g. Temperature extremes and dampness.
2.	The two pieces of the sensor must remain with about half an inch of each other, else the sensor will trigger. This means your door / frame will need to be solid and not move about when closed.
3.	The distance from the shed/sensor to your alarm unit. There doesn’t seem to be much info about transmission range. So it depends how close your shed is.

This item, whilst more expensive would probably be a better choice;

as it’s intended for out-door use.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Replacement for defective unit
*by C***N on 4 December 2024*

Bought this as a replacement for an old sensor which must have become defective as it had started reporting false alerts and burning through the coin batteries (they were only lasting about 3 weeks) - we had had the old sensor for a few years so it was out of warranty but we were not too upset as these are relatively inexpensive to replace. It was easy to install, just scan the barcode using the app to set it up, then fix the unit up on your door/window with the supplied sticky pads or screws. (Although in our case we re-used part of the old sensor’s fixings, we just swapped out the main unit that contains the electronics and batteries). So far so good, the sensor is behaving as I expect. The Ring alarm system as a whole is something I would recommend - although all sensors are battery operated, they typically have a long life and you can monitor the battery life via the app - and insurance companies are starting to view that a self-install alarm is equally as acceptable as a professionally-installed/maintained system.
