## Description

Ana Tijoux is regarded as one of Latin America's leading female MCs. She has been nominated by the MTV Latin America VMAs for "Best New Artist" and "Best Urban Artist." Tijoux has been featured on tracks by Bajofondo, Control Machete and DJ Bitman. But it was a Julieta Venegas collaboration which helped expose her to the mainstream. With '1977,' Tijoux proves her abilities as a true rapera through sophisticated lyrics, a hypnotic jazzy voice and dynamic beats. The new album paints a picture of her childhood in France and pays homage to early 90s hip-hop that influenced her as a teen in Chile.

    So different so good

First off understand where I'm coming from. I'm not really big into hip hop although I have accumulated various artists and songs into my library over the years. That said I really liked this disc; you might even say I love it/ her voice. She commands attention with authority. Being a bilingual person I do understand and am fluent in Spanish. However, hip hop is a language unto itself that requires good listening skills to keep up with the rapid- fire rap. So do I get all her lyrics? Si y no/yes and no. Honestly some of it goes over my head but that doesn't matter as the music is way cool. I first heard Ana Tijoux while watching an episode of "Breaking Bad" and thought who is that? The song was so catchy and cool I had to find out. Thanks to my fave music app, Shazam, I found out immediately and almost as quickly ordered the disc through Amazon. I was blown away with the talent and diversity of her style. Like a good sauce she is both sweet and spicy, angry and seductive resulting in the best of both; yin and yang if you will. Her accompanying musicians and rappers compliment her quite well. The reggae beat on some tracks is infectious adding to her world beat charms. On "Oulala" she raps in French and I get don't understand but it doesn't matter because it's the universal language of music; good music that traverses boundaries and language barriers for a memorable musical experience. This makes her at least trilingual as she raps in English as well. The Chilean artist born in France to parents who were exiles from the Pinochet regime might explain her unique view of the world. She incorporates a variety of musical styles and uses the production values of incorporating the use of various elements of electronic mixing of beats and voices. Her music is mixture of jazzy world beat styles, combining elements of R&B into the musical stew that doesn't shy away from political themes. Ana Tijoux music is interlaced with intricate rhymes that pull you in and won't let go until the song is over; then another song begins demanding more and once she has her musical tentacles in you you're in for the duration. I bought this album because I fell in love with the song "1977" on "Breaking Bad." I recently found out that it is a album that you can add to your library if you are a Prime Member at Amazon. If you are go for it. I recently added another disc of hers to my Prime Library and look forward to giving it some attention. If you're looking for something different to listen to, whether you speak Spanish or not, than this disc will not disappoint; she is fresh and deserves attention. Buy it , you'll like it; you may even love it like me.

    Soul, substance, savior faire

If you haven't heard of Ana Tijoux, check out her performance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series. She's fabulous- personable, human, and delightfully inventive in her rhythms. You needn't know Spanish (or French) to enjoy this album; as long as you like music that considers social and personal issues, while also making you want to cut loose and throw a dance revolution wherever you might be (home, office, traffic jam), then you'll be oh so delighted you bought this album.

    Love this album!

I love Ana's voice and her rapping style. I'm not a huge fan of rap, but I like rap that is creative and different from the rest. I can tell that Ana's style is fresh and the fact that its in Spanish is cool too. I speak Spanish, but even if I didn't I would still enjoy this sound.
