I was able to get exact reading and intend to use for measuring water levels in tanks. I cut off enough of the narrow end of the plastic horn, until the sensor fit snugly. The abrupt end of a narrow tube may create an echo of its own (due to impedance mismatch), and furthemore sound may bend around sharp edges. The data coming out is gibberish and unusable. My guess, the electronics are not designed to handle minor ESD events.
