A rust removing soak that safely removes tough rust from metal parts and tools. WD-40 Specialist Rust Remover Soak quickly dissolves rust and restores tools, equipment, and surfaces to bare metal without chipping, scraping or scrubbing. Great for removing rust from tools, metal, cast iron, chrome parts, and more without harming paint, gaskets, trim, or other surrounding parts. This non-toxic and biodegradable rust-removal formula does not use acids or caustic chemicals and is safe to use on most metals. To remove light rust, leave parts in the solution for 1-3 hours. To remove heavy rust, leave parts in the rust removal solution overnight. Do not use on parts that have bluing, browning or protective oxide paints, as those protective coatings would be removed. Review: I decided to try WD-40 Rust Remover Soak on some very old tools from my Grandfather that I recently "rediscovered" after having them for over 60 years. I picked out some that I would not soak in WD-40 RRS (poor resolution picture on left) so I could compare the results with the pieces I did soak overnight (picture on right). All the tools started out very rusty-- but not pitted or stained. I was very happy with the soaked items. After some work with Scotch-Brite scour pads, they looked better than I had hoped. And the soak did not damage any of the wooden handles. The old axe looked ready to use. After that experience, I used the rest of the gallon to soak some of my own rusty screwdrivers, drillbits, files, pliers, and an old hammer head. The results were good, but not spectacular. What I found is that the better quality the tool, the better the result. A number of the cheapy tools picked up a black stain that was hard to remove. I rated this product a 5. It has no fumes, is totally biodegradable, and did not damage my hand or any other non-rusting materials. It delivers exactly what it promises: slowly removing mild to moderate rust. [If you look carefully at both pictures you will see little hooks like the ones your Great Grandfather used to lace his Spats.]

I decided to try WD-40 Rust Remover Soak on some very old tools from my Grandfather that I recently "rediscovered" after having them for over 60 years.
