I didn't realize when I ordered that it's a "deep dish" compared to the standard pie iron available in stores. That lends itself well to lots of new, improved campfire meals (of the non-sandwhich variety). Skeptical at first, I tried lots of things to see if it would fail me... eggs, hashbrowns, marshmallows, pastry crust, refrigerated cinnamon rolls... and have yet to be disappointed! Great buy! It seals well, the latch closure is tight and secure, and it hasn't rusted despite being left in the rain. My family members were so wowed that they all want one for Christmas! Would highly recommend. It is heavy (because it is cast iron and solid) you could probably stop a charging bear with it but i have not had to try. But a raccoon did try to drag it away on our last camping trip.
