The modern style is for the skinny type, while this is more for the average type or athletic. I personally prefer this style; I'm just under 6' tall weighing 158 lbs.Material wise, these are perfect for hot summer days, the waist fits me perfect (31) and the length is right at the knees. All in all, a good pair of shorts that don't fit too tight or loose. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great quality, poor pockets *by D***0 on Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2016* This review is for the Chino version of these shorts. I really wanted to give these 5 stars. They look good, the chino fabric quality is nice, and the tailoring and fit is really good. The stitching, seams and front button are high quality. ]They are very well-made shorts with high-end quality. I'd want to buy another pair or two in other colors, but the pockets are not well thought out. The rear pockets are fine, one with a button closure, but the front pockets suck. They are too shallow, with a wide slanted pocket opening. You don't want to wear these if you carry a cell phone in your pocket. I have just a regular iPhone 6 (not the bigger one) and it almost falls out of the pocket when I sit down. If it is in your pocket while walking, a corner of the phone sticks out. Don't wear these in a street festival unless you keep your phone in a holster (LOL). The front pockets need to be narrower and deeper. ### ⭐⭐⭐ No side work pocket!! *by D***S on Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2018* A little dissapointed because upon searching the “Q&A” section for this product I was under the impression that they would have the work pocket on the side - that little pocket perfect for a cellphone. I own many pairs of these Volcom shorts and all of them have those pockets, these do not. An official response from the vendor when asked if these shorts have a work pocket is “yes.” I was dissapointed to see they actually do not, but they fit good and was just too lazy to return them.
