They are charcoal. **Q: What would I use to keep the charcoals from smearing?** A: If you have finished your picture you will need to spray it with a fixative. If you are drawing and trying to prevent smearing you can place a piece of paper over the area you are not working on or get vinyl sleeves. **Q: I really want to incorporate the white charcoal into my art. Do I need to use the gray or tan tinted paper? Any recommendation?** A: I have used the white charcoal on white paper. It mixes with the black for some good effects. I was putting snow on tree branches.
