I used a cheap 16 gauge as it's for garage speakers or patio speaker. I was able to strip very small end of the wire and lock them in good with no wire hanging out of port. I tried to use pin connectors but the ports were to close together to get them all in there. I will be buying another when I install the pool to control speakers out there. If so, are there instructions on how to do so?** A: The quick, safe answer is "no". The reason is that the unit contains 2 switches, labeled A & B. Switch A is designed to connect the L+/R+ lines of the Source to L+/R+ of Speaker A. Likewise, Switch B connects L+/R+ lines of the Source to L+/R+ of Speaker B. Now, L-/R- of the Source are ALWAYS connected to L-/R- of BOTH speakers A & B at all times. In other words, L-/R- do not run through either Switch A or B (they act like a common line for all components). This design is a bit unfortunate because the switches they chose have plenty of contacts to accomodate and isolate all parts. So, as it stands, if you were to connect two sources to what is now labeled Speaker A & B and connect a single set of speakers to what is now labeled Source, the L-/R- of both sources (amplifiers) would be connected together at all times. If you were cautious and made sure that only one amps was turned on at a time, you still could never be sure that the powered off amp is not loading down the powered on amp. You may end up accidentally ruining both amps. In conclusion, it is not worth the risk. So, you have two choices for accomplishing your goal: (1) buy a switch designed for 2 sources, 1 output or (2) buy this switch, open it up and reconfigure it for 2 sources, 1 output. This second option of course relies on your electrical skills with a soldering iron and an Exacto knife. **Q: Can it be used with 12 gauge speaker wire?** A: Should work with 12 wire if you can connect that wire to the contact posts at the switch. If its braided 12 strip a few strands to make the connection. Ps. 12 really is overkill ie. 18 would be more than heavy enoug **Q: Can this switch shut off both sets of speakers at the same time so there is no sound from either set?** A: Yes it can.. If both switches are pushed in, both sets of speakers are working. Push one out, turns that one off, push both out they both shut off.
