Instructions are minimal--just one half page of tips that are entirely inadequate for changing the date and time and, more critically, activating the operating system. I flubbed the process, and now, it seems, I cannot have another try at activating the system. My tablet is useless, at least as things stand. My first attempts at getting in touch with the seller make it obvious that is not going to be an easy process.

**Q: Can someone please explain why the RT OS is NOT a good operating system?**
A: It's not, strictly speaking, a bad operating system, judged entirely on its own merits. Microsoft had the dominant operating system, Windows, and watched Apple use a mobile processor and a locked-down operating system, and locked-down hardware that could only run apps from the manufacturer's store to release a tablet that encroached on the then heavily Windows dominated netbook market. Microsoft took Windows, made many similar choices, and released RT to the world.
The problem with Windows RT is what happened next.
Unlike iPad, which both drew from iPhone apps and inspired a huge developer movement, Windows RT , well, mostly didn't do either. Microsoft did release a new way of making "Modern" apps that could run across Windows, Windows RT and even Windows Mobile. There's no existing back catalog there though. The Windows back catalog is in x86, and there was no automatic way of getting those on a Windows RT device. Microsoft ported part of their catalog to RT. A few other developers moved some real products over, but developers mostly decided to keep building classic Windows apps, excluding the slow-selling Windows RT devices till they built real market share. Most customers skipped RT because they could just as easily buy an x86 computer, even in tablet form.
RT dropped decades of backwards compatibility bloat and took a fresh approach to security. It's not a bad operating system for being made badly. The problem with Windows RT is that little software runs on it, Microsoft has abandoned it, and the RT hardware requirements mandated that the underlying hardware is locked in such that it cannot be used for anything else.
Don't buy a Windows RT tablet at this point in time. Microsoft will stop patching it in a little over a year, and you'll spend the time between now and then in a technological dead end. If this is your budget, get a super cheap Windows 10 machine or a Chromebook that has time left under Google's Automatic Update Policy.

**Q: what's included in the box?**
A: Type cover is not included in this purchase. Just the tablet, operating instructions, and charge cord. The Charge device is wall mount only.

A: I only have a wall charger.  There is no USB end.  You would have to buy an inverter to us it in your car.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exactly What I Wanted

I bought this for just $200, a steal of a buy for a product that has extreme ease of access and functionality. With the keyboard, this functions better than my now 1.5-year-old laptop computer for classroom environment. The Good: Very fast start up, fast application launch times, great streaming from video apps, lightweight, MS Office is just as good as on a PC. Extremely easy to take notes in class and I can now take just this single The Bad: There are very few apps compared to ANY other system like Android or Apple products. I found myself looking for close to a dozen apps which just don't exist on here. Some of the apps are pretty jacked up, as well, so if you are a person who is very fond of apps, keep looking. IMPORTANT: If you don't like Windows 8, you will HATE this. I love Windows 8 and find it much easier to access anything on it than on any other OS, so I am very happy with my Surface. I recommend buying refurbished, as Amazon guarantees functionality and it'll save you a lot of money. Same goes for the necessary keyboard.
