With Robin gone it's even more pertinent and sad in places, but in the end it's a Hollywood love story of sorts. It takes you from the highest highs to the lowest lows and back again, all put together with those odd angles and spectacular acting that Gilliam gets out of his actors in the best of his films. There isn't too much that hasn't been said about this one, but it is an underrated classic from the 90s that everyone should see. It has good values matched with clever filmmaking and a solid script. Bridges and Williams carry the show, but everyone does a fine job here. This is an intimate and heartwarming film with a great sense of style.The bluray here actually has none of the extra features on the Criterion, but it does have a better bitrate while being much cheaper. And the scene of course on the front of the cover is a classic from the film that seems more haunting than ever with Robin playing someone torn apart by demons he can't seem to fight. But hey, this is worth experiencing, so pick it up and have a good night with some fine Hollywood celluloid. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Delves into madness and romance in an incredible story *by J***G on Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2020* The Fisher King is a Terry Gilliam film. It starts off as a seemingly normal drama and then becomes more and more surreal as is Gilliam’s style. The movie features Jeff Bridges as Jack Lucas a New York City radio talk show host who is unhappy with his life. He gets a taste of unreality when he meets Parry (Robin Williams) a homeless man who is convinced he’s a knight that has to find the Holy Grail. That’s where the title of the movie comes from as the Fisher King was part of Arthurian legend as the man tasked with protecting the Grail. It turns out the two are intimately involved. Lucas caused a tragedy and Parry was one of the victims. Lucas feels deeply guilty and decides if they work together perhaps they can both get over their problems.The more time Jack spends with Parry the more he delves into his psyche. For instance, he’s in love with a woman named Lydia (Amanda Plummer) that he sees every day. One day he wait for her at Grand Central Station and when he finally sees her he envisions everyone at the station ballroom dancing. That shows the transition from fantasy at first to romance as Jack tries to help Parry with Lydia. In turn that helps Jack with his own relationship. You would never know the story was going to move in that direction from the start. Unfortunately Parry is still mentally ill so he has all kinds of evil visions that seek to destroy the happiness he’s trying to find.Overall Fisher King is a really surprising movie because it deals with both madness and love. I would say that this is one of Robin Williams' finest performances. There is a lot going on in this movie and should be watched several times, at least. Great cameo by Tom Waitts too. Great acting overall, and great cinematography.This is a serious, dramatic film, with humor mixed in.
