I don't know why it's so hard to give us stick users a good holder, something besides a bottle! In this case, I was looking for one for my (adult) son for Christmas. He loves tree stuff and Lord of the Rings, and since I couldn't find anything I liked better, I bought this one. Basically my son now has a cute tree than can be used to hold stick incense if he hangs it up just right. I read the reviews so I knew it was a gamble. I'm disappointed that it doesn't work properly, but I'm not sorry I bought it. It is really good looking, for sure. As an incense holder, well .... 1) if you use STICKS: you will have to jury-rig something to hold the sticks. It's not hard, but we didn't come up with anything nice enough looking to be "happy" about the way it works. I would leave the bottom stopper off and put it on a safe heat resistant surface. 2) If you use CONES: the bottom is not built properly to hold a cone or the mess it makes. It's more like the bottom of a plastic piggy bank, just made to fill up the hole. I would also caution against cones with the included bottom stopper thing. Cones get really hot.
