I work with young children and their families and have found the Dealing With Feelings series very helpful. What I like most about these books is that present a situation and the child can choose what kind of ending they want from a number of alternative actions, and then see what the outcomes could be based on those choices. It is not preachy, and children and parents can learn about their feelings in an accepting and supportive manner.

This is a great book about dealing with fears of a big dog who lives next door. It gives ideas about how to handle the situation. I'd also love to see a fear book about something a little more nebulous, such as the fear of going to a birthday party with kids you don't know.

I have a grandson who is nearly 5 years old. I feel this series of books assist young children in understanding that their emotion has a name, is felt by lots of people and gives them choices in what to do with their feelings. It also gives the parent or caregiver the opportunity to talk with the child and provide love and support when he/she is feeling an emotion strongly.
