But for its size, IT PACKS A PUNCH. It uses both male threaded pvc intakes at 1 inch. At full speed it consumes 320 watts but a suprise to me is when you constrict the out flow of the pump. The more you constrict, the less power it consumes. I used a ball valve to reduce its output to 6/8 it's original output. And it was only using 240 watts! I'm impressed by how it has a built in cooling system to keep air flow over it. It's best to bolt this down to wood with a rubber matt in between the pump and the wood to reduce the vibration from the pump. It doesn't vibrate that much but it's best to keep that to a minimum! I would recommend this pump! Great buy!UPDATED 11/8/15: pump still running strong but I have a few notes to add to my review.First if you constrict the outflow of the pump, it will reduce its power consumption but it will get more warm to the touch unless cooler ambient air temp of at most 75°F is flowing over the moter. I noticed all the noise that came from it was the fan on the motor, so I build a little concrete box that fits over half of it to reflect the noise away from me while still keeping the air circulation perfect.UPDATE 2: 6/22/16The pump has been on continuously since I bought it. I took it apart for maintenance and it was still clean. It's being used for the main filtration in my pond and it still is very quiet! Very long lasting - I have one in constant service for 5 years on a 250 gallon reef tank. It started making a grinding noise and bought this as a replacement. I noticed a small snail in the impellar area and removed it. So thhe original is still going strong and I'll keep the new one for backup. The pump has functioned with no issue since.It took me a few months after ordering to get this item installed. Black front housing immediately started leaking out of a hair line crack not visible by visual inspection.
