The chapters are set up as a school schedule, and my 8 year old likes to tell me what part of the day he is in, which tells me how far along he is in the book. His favorite book in the series is the one about space. You may want to buy this for your 2nd grader, if they really are great readers. Which is great because my son totes it around everywhere with him. They are well written, funny, memorable, and very educational! Jennings skillfully blends humor with high interest topics and cool facts which inspires children to read and try to commit the facts to memory. The dinosaur book gives children a timeline to put their existence in perspective with ours, pre-historic background information, cool dinosaur facts, and covers their place in the modern world (archeology, movies, pop culture). It's an excellent compendium and I recommend it for every child- even one not into dinosaurs.
