The pilot works with a center punched dimple and is spring loaded, it retracts into the arbor as you drill, it doesn't require a predrilled pilot hole. **Q: Can somebody verify if the max depth of cut for the 11090 kit is indeed 1/2" (vs 1/4")? The description says 1/2", but one user states it's incorrect.** A: Actually, it's BOTH - look at the picture showing all the cutters - notice that the three LARGEST ones are straight sided. This means they won't "bottom out" on the back part of the cutter. the smaller sizes WILL be limited in depth of cut by the back (arbor) part of the cutter. **Q: Can these be used to cut through 1/4" thick stainless steel?** A: Yes they can. Stainless sucks to drill but, Just go slow and use a lot of cutting fluid(wd40,oil,etc) or drill a 1/4” pilot hole, that way it centers the rotobroach, and drill halfway thru one side and halfway thru the other, still use a lot of fluid either way. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome cutter set! *by Z***H on March 23, 2016* These bits are awesome! I am now considering getting the larger set! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Product *by D***N on August 28, 2023* The only tool to use when drill holes through sheet metal . clean cut holes, and quick every time ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works as described *by R***T on July 29, 2022* Advantages: 1) As long as you dimple the surface with a punch, the centering piece eliminates bit skating, in contrast to a conventional HSS drill bit of equal size. 2) The hole cutting bits are very efficient, and significantly reduce the time it takes to penetrate the steel, in contrast to a conventional HSS drill bit. 3) As advertised, it does not leave rough burrs. Disadvantages: 1) It is sometimes necessary to use a vice grip to release the hole cutting bit from the washer / arbor base after use. Reason for purchase: To efficiently cut holes in 1/8" thick steel plate.
