I would say that it depends on how you want it to look. At the widest point it measures 4 1/4”. I bought a size 7. **Q: Does the shiny black color peel off the black sandals?** A: no, i have two pair with the shiny color on the strap. neither have peeled in any way. when they are new you will have to break them in to conform to foot. I wore these for a whole week on vacation.
