There was some kind of chemical smell associated with the plastic and/or adhesive that was used on it... a kind of odor that would make many a bit tentative to put anything alive in it, imo. We had one and the acrylic became etched at the water line and we wanted to replace it. I read reviews on a variety of tanks and the size seemed to keep changing depending on the reviewer. I didn't want to get a tank smaller than the one I had. When this one arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at the size and sturdiness. My guess is that this tank holds a gallon of water. It is quite roomy and I had alternated two little artificial flowers in the old tank and they both fit together in the new tank. This tank is thicker and I'm going to have to redo my wall fastener due to the thickness. I've been considering buying another one of these just to have on hand. The price for this tank is very reasonable.
