I've kept the smaller one indoors with my houseplants, and will keep both of them inside this winter (it's the end of October now), but ultimately, I plan to put these in the garden. (Maybe on the front steps in the spring.) They have felt on the bottom, which means they're not really intended to be outdoors, but I'll just let the felt wear off. The felt does mean that you can keep them indoors without worry of scratching your furniture. These are aluminum and relatively lightweight as compared to solid metal or stone, but are not at all fragile. The aluminum is coated the brown color, and the little one I got did have a scuff or something where the aluminum shows through, but it didn't bother me enough to return it to desertcart (which of course is very easy to do).
