Please let me know if you have any more questions. Elisa **Q: Can I use it outdoors and what's the effect?** A: Yes, I have used it outdoors. I do NOT think it is in any way water resistant. I used it to throw a "flame" effect (locked on orange looks cool). About 6 to 7 feet away in mostly dark environment. The effect was still pretty strong. Fades substantially at 15 to 20 feet. But still can be seen in dark setting. **Q: What is the 3.5 mm Jack Plug included for?** A: Use a tripod **Q: Will this turn on automatically when power is applied, and can it be set to turn on with a single color? does this require dmx controller to adjust?** A: Marin,Its a basic plug it in and turn on the power switch. So you can have the power switched already in and plug in for instant use or from another power switch such as a breaker or anything else. I use mine simply to accent aluminum artwork with a marine life motief and I have had it on a timer, photocell and a coule of other start up options. It most defineltely can be set up for a single color and does not require a dmx controller. Mine came with two different magnification focal lenses that just srew in by hand and setting this at various distances to cover larger or smaller areas in addition to the depth you can also get with the twisting in or out of your focal lenses. Primarily I used the blue water affect for my art but I did also use the green coloration for a scary deep sea Capt. Nemo thing I did for the kids a couple of Halloweens ago. Everyone just went gaga of the whole thing. The colors can be set for random roll through and also stop at a specific color as desired. This device is super simple to use and is a freaking tank with its construction. You notice the heavy duty construction when you pick it up, very heavy solid feel to it. Love that it is LED, so it operates without getting hot. Used it as a special effect in our KIDS church. Needed something we could install in a place it would not be easy to get to later and it could work and last a long time, behind a window. Love that we could plug it into a specially wired outlet hooked to a switch and easily turn it off when not in use without having to get directly to the unit. Just what we needed. One of the local restaurants has one projecting on their wall and I asked about it. Found it here on Amazon. ( where else? ) Works great, just a described. Right now it is focused just above the x-mas tree on the ceiling and looks wild. Once the tree comes down, we will experiment with other places to use it. We also tried it focused upward and out the front window onto our all white porch ceiling. It lit up our porch like a kaleidoscope. Very cool. Love giving unusual gifts like this. And I can see where it would add a great "coolness" factor for professional use. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Powerful New LED *by R***Y on August 4, 2010* Part of the new generation of LED based stage lights, this H20 water effect lamp uses much less power (22 watts vs 100 watts) and lasts much longer (30,000 hours vs 800 hours) than any previous generation. I can use three of these in my place and they will draw slightly more energy than a 60 watt (i.e. reading lamp) bulb. The bulbs will last forever: if I used them every night for 10 hours, they could run for 8 years before changing. Impressive! They get slightly hot, but never hot enough to require a cool down. The image is surprisingly bright; actually brighter than a friend's old projector. Not what I expected.Cons are minor: They won't be impressive unless you have a lot of room distance to project; the light has a narrow focus (33 / 52 degree) throw so I needed three of them (in fairness, the Martin DC1 only had a 53 degree throw). I also wish there was a way to change the order of the colors on the wheel - they clash like 90s lights.[Update 6/12] While the LEDs will last forever, the gears don't. These were running 6-8 hours daily on a timer AND POINTED SLIGHTLY UPWARD. The gears started to grind after about a year, loudly within a few months after that. Fortunately there's a 3-year warranty and AmericanDJ was great about fixing them at no cost.
