The dents caused slight bulges in the adjacent faces, which I was able to (easily) file away. The blocks are advertised as case hardened, but I don't believe they are. I shouldn't have been able to file them, and they probably shouldn't have dented in the first place.Edit: The seller assured me that the blocks are case hardened. I did some simple comparison tests with a regular file. The blocks do seem to be harder than some hardware-store steel stock that I had lying around. They feel slightly softer than a cheap chisel I own, and definitely softer than a set of Brown & Sharpe 1-2-3 blocks that I recently purchased. So, I've changed my opinion. I suspect that they actually are hardened, just not as hard as I expected. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good geometry, kind of soft *by R***Y on Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2019* Checked on a surface plate with a LVDT against gage blocks. Blocks are matched to 0.0002", and are not more than 0.0002" from nominal 2" 4" 6". Very flat and parallel - <0.0001". I assume these are pretty square.Minus a star for low hardness and a slight waviness (<<0.0001") in the grind. One of the blocks got loose from the flimsy product box in shipping and banged up the other one, so I had to stone a couple places right off the bat.I totally recommend these as a great value.
