I only received it yesterday so can’t say that everything has fully sunk in yet, but I enjoyed it so much I had to get a review on here in case there are people unsure whether to buy it yet! The Opening few tracks are blistering Ozzy metal, a real return to form. Crunching riffs that bring to mind his seminal early (80’s) material, a hint of Ozzmosis, some latter day Sabbath and some good all round Hard Rock. The Ballad with Elton John was a big surprise, their voices work well together and it isn’t a syrupy mess. It’s actually a damn good hard rock tune. The production on most of the tracks is great, not too processed (although, whisper it.....you can tell where his voice has been cut and pasted into place here and there)...some of the tracks sound damn dirty, just enough grit to bring happy memories of his Crazy / Doomy past. The almost punky track featuring Post Malone is another treat, fast and fun, again the voices work well together and it’s good to see Ozzy trying something new. It’s a little throw away though, a comedy aside perhaps to lighten the mood of this quite Doom flavoured album. The final almost hip hop, programmed track is quite dated, like an instrumental you would find on a Limp Bizkit album.......no, don’t runaway.....just skip it and pretend it doesn’t exist. Anyway a really good album and very pleasant surprise. Ozzy has some great musicians on here but Duff McKagan and Chad Smith deserve a special mention, they are fantastic throughout. Miss the fantastic guitar of Zakk though, a real shame he wasn’t involved with this one. Slash features on a couple of tracks but he sounds subdued here. Anyway, if you’re a fan buy it, if you lost track of Ozzy in the 90’s and 00’s give it a chance. TBH it’s a four star Ozzy album but due to the fact it’s better than other rubbish in the charts and that I might encourage someone to have a punt on this I’m giving five stars.
