Plus you'd lose the ability to do fine detail like the edge of the empty glass above the "water line" of the drink. But sometimes the ball lands just right (or in this case wrong) so the logo is hard to make out. Throw in the Jolly Roger Tin Cup marker and I am 100% certain whether a ball is mine. I use an ultra-fine tip red sharpie marker to leave the mark in 2 spots on the ball away from the logo. No matter which way the ball faces when it lands, I can pick out the logo of the ball or one of the 2 skull and bones. There's never any confusion for anyone else which ball is mine either.The only two negatives are minor to me personally. It takes some time to sit down with a pack of 12 golf balls and put 2 marks on each. Even with the ultra-fine point it takes a bit of care if you want the logo to be relatively neat on the ball. Also, you would be wise to let them sit for a few minutes so it dries and be careful they don't roll away on a surface you care about if they haven't. The second thing is that permanent ink is not entirely permanent when you're talking about a golf ball, club face, and wet conditions. There are marks on some of my club faces form a direct hit, and the ink does wear and come off through contact. I would be careful about carrying marked balls in pant pockets, etc. if they are ones you care about.That being said, it personalizes a golf outing a bit, and leaves you spending less time guessing if a golf ball is yours or not.
