I have a chemex as well, but usually I end up reaching for this instead. The wood collar has a stretchy band on it, so it's easier to get on and off for cleaning compared to tying the leather cord on the chemex. The collar contours to the curves much better than the chemex as well, so it feels solid and stays in place while pouring. I also use it for the blasphemous purpose of keeping leftover coffee in the fridge, so the wooden cover/top is great for that. Looks sleek and modern in the kitchen, and has a nice weight to it. I'll admit, I also tend to just throw it in the dishwasher for cleaning. I haven't noticed any chips or flaking inside or outside. I'll be ordering a few this year for gifts. It is a nice ceramic --- like a coffee mug. I used a cone coffee filter and I usually grind my own coffee. This pour over allows me to control how hot my coffee is. It is very nice when you only want to fix one cup or if someone drinks a different type of coffee ( such as decaf) from other people. The coffee is delicious and the carafe has a rubber seal that keeps the coffee hot until you want it. I would recommend this item! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty, nice-quality feel, but is it practical for you? *by S***2 on April 22, 2020* Aesthetically this is a very nice looking product with a pretty nice quality feel. From a practical standpoint it does have one setback, you cannot see how much you've filled it, so you must pre-measure the amount of water you're using for your pour-over. I really liked it but landed up returning it before use because of my own poor choice in not considering the pre-measurement inconvenience, not realizing you cannot leave on the warm stove and it's size was a little small for the two large mugs of coffee I consume every morning.
