The simple fact some aren't getting is that this requires a firmware update to work with newer ESCs, then that same ESC needs a firmware update. Both happen through the same software, and both are required. It's awesome and convenient. You know exactly what values you're getting with no need for a printed card, or the dreadful beeps to program. You need a USB-C data cable (included) to plug in simultaneously while the programmer is plugged in to the ESC. This provides power and data. The software will auto load the firmware updates. It is an easy process if you know what's required to get it working. Is it kinda irritating to have to upgrade the firmware immediately for all functionality? Yes. But once you do it, you can upgrade your Spektrum ESCs to the most recent firmware AND use your computer to change settings if you misplace the smart programmer. If you're having trouble getting this working, check YouTube. I'm by no means technologically advanced, and if I can figure it out in about 30 minutes.. you're selling yourself short. There's some way you can get this stuff to work with a Bluetooth module.
