    Awesome Mill Grinder

*by F***O on Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2012*

I am a huge fan of multi use multi function items in my kitchen. This mill grinder had the better reviews over kitchenaids' own model so I gave it a try. I am glad I did, this is a well made unit.I initially wanted something to grind coffee beans, but I happen to make alot of bread from whole wheat berries as well, so . . . After I pieced all that together, I am in a good place.I grind coffee beans everyday. I can't say if this mill will give the fine powder and fluff necessary for good espresso. You can adjust the burr's to where they are barely making contact so I would assume you can. I also noticed that this is much quieter than a stand alone burr grinder for coffee. When the machine is running you can stand next to it and have a conversation.I have made several loaves of bread, putting in four cups of berries and walking away with no issues. I run a artisan kitchenaid witch is a 375 watt unit. I have had no concerns of overheating, really folks that blow up a kitchenaid's either have really bad luck or are running the motor to fast/hard.Clean up is easy, like the meat grinder this unit breaks down into the housing, drive, inner burr, outer burr, and nut to hold it all together. I didn't include the adapter as it doesn't come in contact with the food, and the hopper is almost a simply wipe down and your done.

Good versatility and results for the Price

I've been looking for a grain mill for a few months now and found most options to be fairly expensive with mixed reviews as to results. I wanted an electric mill for regular use and a manual option for electrical outages and emergency prep. This one works great for my needs! It grinds pretty quickly, even on the manual option and I like how it doesn't take up too much room in my cabinets since it's an attachment for an appliance I already have. I would have given it 5 stars if it ground a little finer. My wheat berries come out slightly course for my taste, but it definitely gets the job done for my bread baking needs.

    hard on mixer, coarse grind

*by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2013*

We purchased the Family Grain Mill with an adapter to run on my Kitchenaid Pro 600.Prior to purchase, I read a LOT of reviews and articles on using my mixer as a grinder and felt well prepared to care for my machine while grinding grain for the family. My machine is not the Artisan model, the motor is much stronger, and I was ready to take the necessary precautions to protect my equipment.Anyway, despite my caution, the pin in my Kitchenaid which holds the beater shaft seems to have snapped within the first few uses. I ended up getting a total of 5 uses out of the Family Grain Mill before it completely killed a reliable $500 machine that I use daily. When I called the FGM, the representative who answered their customer service line did not have a working connection, speak legible English, or know how the Grain Mill Kitchenaid Adapter attaches on the Kitchenaid. She referred me instead to the company who made my mixer, claiming she didn't know anything about how the grinder works on my machine. Now I have to drive 2 hours to our nearest approved repair location and spend the money to get my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer fixed. Then I'll do what I should have done in the first place and purchase a NutriMill.Looks like I'll be kneading by hand in the meantime..
