A: Yes, the cord is pretty thick and the toggles are sturdy.

**Q: How to use for a hood on my coat?**
A: I took it to my local tailor and had them rethread it into my coat. I needed to do the hoodand the elastic at the bottom of the coat.

**Q: Can this elastic handle multiple hot water wash cycles?**
A: I am using these on items I have made for our sailboat, all items that are not washed in hot water. Sorry I do it know the answer.
