I used scrapbook paper probably medium weight and it punched nicely. I then tried a heavier weight and it worked great. I set it down and punched it that way. Perfect. This paper punch is really hard to use. You have to put too much pressure to make it work so I think it would rip it. **Q: Why are batteries required if it’s a manual punch?** A: I purchased this punch a couple of years ago and no batteries are required. I can make 1,2 or 3 different butterflies or layer any of them on top of each other to create 3D butterflies. Super cute and super fun! The only issue I have is that sometimes the punched out little pieces get stuck inside and I have to use a poking tool to get them out. But that is minimal considering how cute this stamp is!
