## Description

Richard James Takes Electronic Music to the Next Level on 'boy Girl' by Blending Breakbeats and Symphonic Strings While Adding a Sense of Humor.

Review: Brilliance - Since its recent inception as popular music, Electronica has been accused of lacking "soul" and feeling. While this can be said of many works within the genre, many stand out as fully developed pieces of music (containing the aformentioned soul and feeling, as well as depth, complexity and overall musicality.)Richard D. James as Aphex Twin has accomplished this to stirring a affect. "Girl Boy" may be the most beautiful electronia song ever constructed. It is a fully developed symphony; a euphonimous epic (while never being pretentious) tune, open to differing interpretation. The song in itself is reason enough to like this E.P. Beyond "Boy Girl," "Beetles" is quick striking; though in a rather simplistic manner; as well. "In Keys" is a typically hyper Aphex Twin--something more reminiscient of his most mainstream hit "Come To Daddy."Still, all this means nothing when "Girl Boy" is the opening track. The piece is simply magnificent--one of electronica musics' entrys into the realm of all-time masterpieces of music.
Review: I wish the milkman would deliver my milk in de morning - Funny stuff - you get some half finished scraps that never made it to the Richard D. James album and you even get to hear (I presume it's him) him sing - you've gotta love milkman!

### ⭐⭐ I bought this for the Title Track
*by O***Y on October 10, 2000*

I bought this CD for the Girl-Boy song I heard on the radio. I found that song to be very novel and quite marvelous at the time for its marriage of breakbeat electronica with classical string instrumentation. The production on it is not the best, though. You can't up the bass to listen to the break-beats with any force without having the orchestral bass strings overpoweringly-thumbing out too buzzy-like. Well, this song lost its gloss pretty quickly for me. I think it's an interesting electronic novelty song now. I have since sold this EP to the resale shop. The rest of this CD sounded like an attempt to be a sort of electro version of They Might Be Giants. Mildly amusing at times, for the most part Mr. James didn't seem to hit the mark. I agree, these short tunes with his whimsically innocent vocals DO sound like scraps of sillyness he dug out from bits of crumpled paper perhaps lying around his floor. Probably an EP for fans only, but not essential for me.
