I don't dare to try it because mine is set perfectly at the moment. The wheel has an arrow up and down so I'm thinking it might be this. **Q: Will this punch a portfolio that measuers 113/4 in legenth?** A: It will NOT punch 11 3/4" long media. The slot will only hold up to 11 3/8" long paper. Also, the punch will not be centered at that length. It will have 3/8" from one side to the first slot and 4/8" (1/2") from the other side to the last slot... you cannot center it exactly. **Q: Can this machine bind books of differing page size, say 1/2 letter size of 8-1/2 X 5-1/2? I assume you just cut the combs down to the size you need?** A: Yes. They can do smaller sizes, and yes they would have to cut the combs down to size... Also they would need to try to get the paper aligned to cut the holes in the proper place though. **Q: Is it a two step process? We were constantaly having to reprint pages because the holes got uneaven. This one is WONDERFUL! The paper loads from the top so (so far) we have had no punching errors. The lever for opening the combs is nice. The one we had before had a dial that was a huge pain. The lever is working quite well with no issues. It came with some extra supplies like cover stock & a few combs.
