## Description

desertcart.com: Stonemaier Games: Tapestry (Base Game) by Jamey Stegmaier | A Civilization Building Strategy Board Game | Lead a Civilization to Greatness Through Cultural & Tech Advances | 1-5 Players, 120 Mins : Toys & Games

Review: Great game, lots of fun - I love this game. I first played it once as a one player game. The rules were a little confusing which is my only critique to this game. The rule book should have been a couple more pages of instructions. I did like that they provided both words and pictures to explain b/c that's very helpful. There just should have been a little more of that b/c the automa and shadow empire rules to me were a little confusing, and so was the income scoring. Eventually I figured it out but wasted a lot of time at first re-reading and re-reading trying to understand it. I've played the game four more times as a two player game and once as a three player game. My friends and I had a lot of fun. It has lots of replay ability b/c of the 16 different civilizations you can play. And not only that but the randomness of the different tapestry cards and tech cards you may get. I'm excited to see they have an expansion that adds 10 more civilizations and other things for even more replay-ability. I will definitely be getting that in the near future. One note, I wish that on the bottom or on the base of each building that they had put the name of the building. It would be much easier to determine what building is which when setting up the game, and from the buildings that are on the tech cards. And the bases don't quite fit the squares it shows they cover. So when you are placing them on your capital mat, make sure to keep that in mind. Don't go by just the building itself when placing it. Go back the helpful picture that is provided on the building mat and the tech card. B/c you might short-change yourself on a couple of squares. Other than that this game is great and my friends and I love it!!!
Review: Amazing Engine Building Board Game - This is a great engine building civilization board game in which you guide a civilization through time advancing your technology, expanding your territory, and expanding your ability to generate resources. It is relatively easy to learn for this genre of game and can be played in 2-3 hours. The components are of great quality like all Stonemaier games and the fully painted miniature buildings really add to the atmosphere of the game. Overall, it is a very fun game that can be learned quickly but has an immense amount of depth.

## Features

- Build Your Civilization: Create the civilization with the most storied history, starting at the beginning of humankind and reaching into the future. The paths you choose will vary greatly from real-world events or people — your civilization is unique! Now with updated civilizations.
- Goal: Advance on any of the four advancement tracks (science, technology, exploration, and military) to earn progressively better benefits. You will also improve your income, build your capital city, leverage your asymmetric abilities, earn victory points, and gain tapestry cards that will tell the story of your civilization.
- Impressive Sculptures: Pre-painted landmark sculptures to add to game immersion are placed on your board next to smaller building sculptures to indicate the growth of your city. From small to large, all included sculptures have fantastic detail and provide a wonderful tactile experience.
- Thematically Designed Mechanisms: The various tracks of progress have thematic advancements and ends - the end of the exploration track allows you to gain a space tile in order to explore space, as your military gains strength and becomes more advanced, you can conquer more places, etc. The science track supplements other tracks allowing you to accelerate your advancement in other areas. Use beautiful 3D buildings to grow your city and puzzle out where to build things, giving you a highly tactile experience.
- For families, solo gamers, and game groups alike: This tile placement and hand management civilization strategy game for 1-5 players has a 90-120 minute playing time with only a 5 minute setup time. Great game for couples, solo gamers, 2 players, family, and friends.
- Solo Play: Features an Automa to play against in a 1-player game for a fun solitaire experience. The Automa simulates an opponent for you to compete against, while your game as a player remains the same. On the Automa’s turn, flip a card to see what action it takes.
- Beautifully Designed and Illustrated: Designed by Jamey Stegmaier (Scythe). Illustrated by Andrew Bosley (Everdell) and Rom Brown.
- High Replayability: Many different civilizations are included to change the strategy of each game played, and a variety of tapestry cards change up the goals for each round.
- Published by Stonemaier: Stonemaier is a tabletop game publisher based in St. Louis and distributed worldwide. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there any meaningful player interaction, or is this mostly everyone focusing on their own civ until someone wins at the end?**
A: Thee are several race like goals on the main board and a minor combat system on he map. Jf you ignore the other players you'll likely loose.

**Q: Can you attack other players?**
A: There is a limited ability to conquer other player's territory. A territory cannot be conquered if two structures are already built upon it. There are times when a Tapestry card is in play that prevents conquering as well. Overall, player versus player confrontation is low.

**Q: Does this game come with revised rules? I understand there have been some changes.**
A: The rules changes, per se, aside from some minor clarifications are changes to some of the civilization abilities. They are not included in this copy of the base game, but can be downloaded from Stonemaier Games' website and are also included in the game's first expansion, Plots & ploys.

**Q: Is this game language dependent?**
A: The boards and cards aren't. It uses symbols which are pretty easy to figure out. However, the various civilizations you pick have to be read to figure out how they work.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Game I Have Every Played!
*by M***R on October 13, 2020*

If you like Settlers of Catan, but want something a little deeper, this is perfect. Once I ordered it on Amazon, I spent the next two days while I waited for it to arrive to watch Tapestry - How to Play tutorials. I probably spent 2-3 hours watching how to play so that when it arrived, there were only a few things I was unsure about. Two of the income mats arrived with a purple ink mark baked into the print, but I contacted Stonemaier Games and they shipped out replacement mats for free. My wife and 10-year old played it the first night, then my wife wanted to play it again the next day. First 3-player game was about 4.5 hours (probably from learning rules as we go), then the 2-player game the next day was only 1.5 hours. You can even play a solo 1 player game or add a shadow empire variant to a 2-player game to make it more interesting. There is even a winner's log that you can submit your winning civilization and score so that they can continue to improve the game with handicaps, etc. Some Civs are definitely better than others, that's why they have handicaps included.
