If you have been vegan for awhile, are decent at cooking, and live near a vegan store/community then I think these books are for you. For me the books were a lot of vegan propaganda that is off putting to non vegans and unnecessary to committed vegans. I gave this to my friend who was vegan for years and she put these books to good use. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Funny plus good recipes *by N***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2008* I actually really liked this book. The cookbook had good recipes that were easy to make and didn't require a lot of strange ingredients.It was funny (if you have a sense of humor that can tolerate cursing and crudeness) but at times a little over the top. The authors definitely have an animal protection agenda, but that aside, there is some useful new information in the book. Their approach is upfront, and they tell you straight up what you need to do to get healthy. I felt that their approach was much more realistic than other approaches which expect you to abstain totally from certain kinds of healthy staple foods (carbs, fruit, etc.). While this is a vegan "diet," and might be a stretch for people who love their steak, I didn't find the transition too difficult (I was a vegetarian for 10 years prior). Ultimately, there is some info in the book that is stretching the imagination a little bit far (like the dairy industry conspiracy theory idea), and the tone might be offensive to some (particularly those with sensitivity to food issues), but it's worth a read, and the cookbook is definitely worth trying out.I picked this book because I recently learned that I am lactose intolerant, and so it made sense for me to become a vegan. But I'm not sure how useful this book would be merely as a weight loss tool since unless you have a moral or medical reason to become a vegan, this plan would be tough to stick to if your only ambition was to lose weight. Sure, you'll lose weight (I've lost about 10 pounds in the month since I made the switch), but in the long term I think it would be way to challenging for most people to adhere to.Bottom line: try it, but take it with a grain of salt. ### ⭐⭐⭐ One out of two isn't so bad *by S***A on Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2011* I reviewed these separately because they were so different it's ridiculous.Skinny Bitch is a good starting point. Not everyone will agree with everything in it but it puts real facts in your face in a "no BS" manner. It feels like my voice talking to other people. Stop being lazy. Eat better, exercise. Stop making excuses. With profanity. I laughed out loud and read entire pages out loud to my boyfriend.I HIGHLY recommend Skinny Bitch, but the cookbook is just vegan versions of what they tell you not to eat.
