He looked at the cover and wasn't too interested at first, but then I started reading it aloud and he loved every minute of it. He was 7 at the time, now 8, and we just read it again for at least the 4th time. There are parts of the book near the end that made him laugh out loud and I appreciated how it stayed clear on the path of goodness, with even the antagonists eventually finding their path to kindness. Magical writing, endearing characters, and joyful.
