There aren't enough 'carbon' pieces to really make any of the larger biological molecules, and the set could use a few other important atoms. But all in all, it's worth the money. Review: Best Kit I know of - I ordered this kit to get me through my organic chemistry class at the university, and it more than does the job. The model kits that my school provides are the spring type bonds with wooden molecules, not bad at all but this kit has several advantages the others. 1) Bonds are easily rotated giving you all the different perspectives in the same molecule 2) Molecules such as cyclohexanes "flip" like a dream allowing you to observe axial and equatorial atomic positions clearly 3) The space saving bonds give you another option to look at the molecule without all the clutter of springy bonds - Overall this kit is perfect for pre-med level organic chemistry (not too sure about more advanced classes that Chemistry majors may take) It has planty of atoms and bonds and holds shape extremely well. - I am constantly being asked where I got it and classmates are always coming to me to observe my models since they are just more clear with this kit. - One of my favorite things to do is put four different color atoms on a carbon using the space saver bonds and bring it to the exams so I can check for chirality by lining up atoms, I find this to be super effective and havent missed a chirality question yet! (Also helps out a ton with R and S enantiomers if you make two) Sure it may cost a few bucks more than something else, but it could help you make the grade. And did I mention, its just fun! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very educational, but I wish I could buy spare parts. *by D***N on June 4, 2011* I bought one of these kits as an educational toy for my grandson, but bought one first for myself, to evaluate it. Now I'm hooked: I bought another for me, and will probably buy four more. I had a lot to learn. Apparently real students use these to model molecules one by one, tearing down one model when they're ready to study another. I want to keep the ones I've already assembled, to compare them when looking at larger structures. Alas! The kit contains only 14 carbon molecules. I could use 15 just to model an unadorned benzene molecule plus one decorated a little to make an aspirin. And my real interest is to model the four bases used in the genetic code (five if you count uracil), plus maybe a few of the amino acids that they encode, just to visualize how it's done. Just the four bases will use up another three or four kits (unless I want to tear down my benzene ring and aspirin). And I give up any thought of modeling a gene. Well, I said it was educational. If nothing else, it adds to the staggering wonder of what's going on in our genome, let alone the epigenome. So to make a concrete suggestion: I wish the individual parts (carbon in particular, and the rods used as links) could be bought in supplemental packets. I do have one criticism: the rods are really hard to push into the sockets, and hard to twist in a socket or withdraw.
