The fan blade is plastic, but of high quality. A metal mounting bracket is provided, but the fan housing is round and completely smooth, with no pre-drilled holes for attaching the bracket. **Q: Is the Fantech 4 inch , FG 4 variable speed?** A: I think you need a separate variable-speed controller for it. We have a Fantech fan which came with a cord and plug, and got a speed-control switch that plugs into the wall outlet, and the fan plugs into the speed-control switch. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantech Centrifugal inline fan FG4. *by T***E on December 16, 2014* Installed fan last week, once you get the duct work connected, fan is very quiet. The fan is being used to transfer warm air from our wood stove located in a family room to a bathroom and bedrooms. Installed the bracket which can be used to fasten the fan to a stud if desired, screws were included. Electrical hook up was easy and instructions were concise and clear for an experienced DIYer or even a novice. We will need to insulate the fan, as suggested by the included instructions, since it is in an unconditioned attic which is cold and since we are trying to transfer warm air. Product seems to be well made. ### ⭐⭐ Much louder than I expected *by J***S on January 26, 2013* We installed 5 panasonic fans in our remodel, and decided to try fantec for the one inline fan we had in the house. It's by far the loudest fan in the house. Sure it moves more CFM's than the panasonics but it's in the attic 8 feet away and the panasonics are right above your head. The sound comes out of the two vents we have connected to it.Code requires us to use aluminum ducting, fiberglass flex would be better. Wish I would have gone panasonic, I assume it is quieter. I am going to see if I can return this, but the box is already tossed... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Inline exhaust fan for bathroom *by D***T on April 6, 2011* This is a great fan that was very easy to mount. I could not mount a standard fan & vent in a basement bathroom ceiling. Instead I installed an exhuast vent in the bathroom wall and then ran the exhaust vent pipe along the basement joists out thru an exterior wall. It was reatively easy with the right tools to install this fan inline with the exhaust pipe run.
