I would suggest that unless you are skilled with this device, I would get some cut resistant gloves. I have sliced myself too many times. **Q: Did this one come with the blade protector?** A: Interesting, I ordered one in 2015 and it did come with a plastic cover that went over the blade area and attached to the knob on the side. However when you read the description it does not say a cover is included. **Q: Will this create extremely thin "shaved" slices? Need shaved fennel for a recipe.** A: It should. This is the best slicer on the market. I use it everyday. It does very thin slices of red onion for dinner salads. Cleans up as easy as a knife. It is very sharp so be careful! Hope this helps. **Q: How do you cut strawberries with v slicer** A: If the strawberries are firm you can hold the soft grip handle on top and it does slice them beautifully. Just cut the top tip off so the handle can grasp it. I have done this many time. If the fruit is soft, forget it.
