The first set we bought had one working speaker and the other was covered in what looked like Vaseline and had no liquid in it. You can't refill the water inside, they're factory sealed. We sent them back and got a replacement. Iv've used them 4 times so far at parties and events and they work great. The audio quality is above average, the light show is very correlated to the music, and the battery life is decent. The complaint I have (besides the first set not working) is that the directions for how to connect them to a power source (like a USB batter pack - there is no wall plug in or other charger), to each other, and to your music source (a phone, mp3, etc.) are flat out wrong and confusing. You have to be patient and plug and unplug the items until you get the right combination. I needed speakers for my computer and these are perfect. I love the water dance but the sound quality is spot on too! They didn't come with instructions but I didn't have any problems. I was able to hook it up to my computer and have it up and running in a few minutes. They are very attractive, about 1" tall. They don't take up a lot of room. The wires are a little short so I have to keep them within 3 feet of the computer. They have a wire between them as well so you can't spread them out very far. They work great for my set up. I am very happy with them. By the way they use the older model adapter.
