I'm not sure if it would answer your needs, but here it is. Measure your canvas height and width then multiply them by each other to get the square inches. Multiply the square inches by 0.1 to get the ounces needed to cover your canvas. To convert to grams, multiply the ounces by 28. This is only a rough guide as the paint consistency will affect coverage, i.e., the thinner the paint, the fewer ounces needed. **Q: What is the effective difference between normal matte medium and the matte fluid medium?** A: The normal matte medium will only produce a matte effect on the paint. Anyhow I had never protected one of my paintings before because I was scared to use this kind of thing. I bought this and decided to be brave and try it. It was a piece of cake. I painted a quick painting to sort of test this on it and it was excellent. I used a plain brush but I think moving forward I will use foam or some other way. On my test painting it was a little scary applying it because it's sort of opaque. But once you brush it, it clears up and disappears. It goes on very smoothly and dries very fast! This will give your painting a bit of a sheen to it - a little shiny. I then used this on another painting of a photograph I once took and this is where I say now I will use a foam brush or another way to apply it. While it went on fine, you can definitely see your brush strokes in it. I did straight horizontal strokes which were even and excellent but you can see it after the fact. I wasn't a fan of that but - it does look ok and protects it nicely.
