## Description

The Outer Worlds is a new single player first person Sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find Yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all-vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable. The player driven story RPG: In keeping with the Obsidian tradition, how you approach The Outer Worlds is up to you. Your choices affect not only the way the story develops; but Your character build, companion stories, and end game scenarios. You can be flawed, in a good way: New to The Outer Worlds is the idea of flaws. A compelling hero is made by the flaws they carry with them. While playing The Outer Worlds, the game tracks Your experience to find what you aren't particularly good at. Keep getting attacked by Raptidons? Taking the Raptiphobia flaw gives you a debuff when confronting the vicious creatures, but rewards you with an additional character perk immediately. This optional approach to the game helps you build the character you want while exploring Halcyon.Lead Your companions: During Your journey through the furthest colony, you will meet a host of characters who will want to join Your crew. Armed with unique abilities, these companions all have their own missions, motivations, and ideals. It's up to you to help them achieve their goals, or turn them to Your own ends.Explore the corporate colony: Halcyon is a colony at the edge of the galaxy owned and operated by a corporate board. They control everything . Except for the alien monsters left behind when the terraforming of the colony’s two planets didn’t exactly go according to plan. Find Your ship, build Your crew, and explore the settlements, space stations, and other intriguing locations throughout Halcyon.

Review: It's like Fallout but with a serious sense of humor - I didn't give this game much thought when I saw previews and reviews until it went on sale for $20 and I decided to give it a try on the recommendation from a friend who knows I love Fallout (I own every Fallout since the first one on PC many years ago!) and other similar RPG franchises. There's a decent amount of depth to character creation and progression, although I wish the level cap was a little higher as late-game weapons make quick work of even the largest, hardest enemies (the last boss I chewed through with a ~2000dps modded flamethrower that destroyed anything it touched). I have high hopes The Outer Worlds 2 will bring a lot of balance. The game itself is wonderful. The learning curve for some of the slow-time mechanics isn't very steep. The companions are all wonderful in their own way, with SAM being one of the funniest, despite being a cleaning robot. The dialog is excellent, littered with tons of humor and good jokes which were still enjoyable even in late-game. There are so many small differences in the endings (and SO many story arcs that your choices can make subtle differences in) and so many ways to play this game that its relatively short single player campaign (20ish hours) means you can play through in multiple styles and ways - either siding with the colonists, the Big Bad Corporation, or finding your own path. The "maps" are fairly small for a game of this kind, but that doesn't mean there's not lots of side quests to do (and you can certainly do them all, I sure did on my first playthrough). I never got tired of playing the game and never felt like it was grindy at all. The two DLCs are short and sweet, very pleasant and nice new environments to explore. If you like Fallout style RPGs with loads of replayability and different ways you can work through the game, definitely give this a try, it's a LOT of fun, and the aesthetics, swelling musical scores, and gameplay experience is an absolutely awesome mix. If you're unsure what I mean about humor, go check out the E3 announcement trailer for The Outer Worlds 2. It's one of the best announcement trailers I've ever seen for a game, and it's utterly void of any content at all. It's mostly a social commentary on the state of game announcement trailers, and it's hilarious and wonderful, and gives you a good sense of what this franchise is all about. :)
Review: One of the Best Games In A Long Time - What's Absolutely Perfect: 1. The writing is hilarious. The main creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky also made Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas and it shows. One of the other writers also worked on Mass Effect and this shows in the lovable characters and loyalty quests. 2. The voice acting is amazing, especially Ashley Burch as Parvati and Dave Mitchell as Vicar Max. 3. Your choices have a serious impact on the story. You can play entirely good, entirely bad or somewhere in between. This isn't Mass Effect where you are just a meaner version of the hero, you can actually change sides and work for the bad guys. Being a bad guy has different quests, location order and dialogue. You can kill anyone with breaking the game or likewise do a pacifist run. What's okay: The combat is very basic. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it but nothing special either. It never feels clunky and the inventory system is nice. The maps are also smaller than open world games like Skyrim and Fallout 4. Some people have also complained about the length. I did very completionist run in about 60 hours, people not doing side quests have been known to complete it in a far shorter time. However it would require an additional playthrough with a differently aligned character to truly experience all the game's content. Personally I enjoyed the game at its current length. What could be better: 1. Obsidian does not have EA money and it shows sometimes, especially in graphics quality. If I could change one thing about this game it would be this. The lip flaps in a couple scenes are pretty bad. Normally I would deduct a lot for this but the writing and voice acting does a lot to make up for it. 2. No third person mode. I actually wonder if this game was originally meant to have one and it was cut for time/budget reasons, because the character creator lets you do a lot to change appearance. One good thing is that there's no head bob which usually makes me ill. Your mileage may vary: Be prepared for a lot of reading. This is an RPG like Mass Effect or Dragon Age where your responses can vary and have a lot of effect on the plot. It's also worth reading all the terminals in the game for additional story content. The religion in this game is not pseudo-Christianity for once, which is really nice if you care about that sort of thing.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's like Fallout but with a serious sense of humor

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Game and worth the time
*by D***D on November 18, 2019*

Ok first off the bad. -The graphics are not revolutionary. It shows the most in facial animations but it isn't so bad that you can't get over it. -It is not a LONG game. I mean there is plenty of game to make it worth it but this isn't going to take you months to do every little side quest. -The item variety gets a little stale pretty quick. -Menus function oddly. Like I closed out on the mad can't I reopen onto the map PLEASE? The GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!! -THE STORY IS AMAZING. It isn't Fallout 3 but it is a good solid story line, and it really implies a much universe even if you are only playing in parts of a single star system. -Those companions though. I usually hate at least half my companion options in games like this. Not so in The Outer Worlds. I really enjoyed exploring who they are and the quest lines that helped me get to know them. -ADA your ship's AI is my new best friend! -The game basically lets you be captain Mal from Firefly! -The combat system is solid. There were are companion abilities that really make the game dynamic and fun but at no point did I feel like I needed to use them to survive. The time dilation power is useful and fun again without being mandatory. -The game is stunning! Several times I just would stop what I was doing and look out at the landscape spread out before me. -You can take this a fun or as seriously as you want... heck you can do both at once.
