Much better than the original filter. Not only is the filter mesh of a better quality, but the whole piece is a bit more rigid and shaped, so it seals better against the edges and doesn't warp and allow grounds to push through at the sides. Now, just like any filter, you have to be careful and not let the edges bend otherwise you get gaps where the grounds can some through. Interestingly, in the photos for this product, some are inaccurate. The photos with the blue background ARE an accurate representation of what the filter looks like. Strong, sturdy and rigid. The photo with the white backgrounds (the first one with a pair and the one that shows it with the french press stem screw base) do not show this filter. It actually shows the type of lesser quality filter that came with my Thermos French Press.
