Sole is not very soft compared to others i've had like the Dr. Scholls.... but the cupped heel is supposed to allow your natural heel padding be more effective. Arch support is quite stiff so i expect it will hold its shape for some time. I have tried a pair of standard Green Superfeet insoles for running shoes after getting shin splints but they occupied too much space in the shoe and were a little unforgiving. They alleviated the pain, but weren't ideal. I tried the Run Comfort ones with a little scepticism (if it isn't broke don't fix it...) They are great, just about right for running shoes. I have no pain in the shins they're so comfortable. I needed to trim them a little but that's to be expected. Expensive but really, really worth it over any standard insoles.
