I was using the sm57 for my snare, mounted tom and floor tom, but was not getting what I was looking for on the toms. This had a much rounder tone and seemed to be more purpose built for the job. The profile is also very nice compared to the sm58. It is shorter and doesn't get in the way, plus the clip it comes with is very versatile.
