I removed the inserts in order to fit more books in, and it holds a lot. You could use multiple trays in the book section if you had the available trays. **Q: Is it possible to remove the inserts and use it as a regular backpack?** A: Yes, you can remove the inserts. I’m not sure if you would want to use it as backpack but it would work 👍 **Q: Could someone tell me the dimensions of the foam tray insert for the heroes? I'd like to store them in the main compartment instead of the books!** A: Unless you’re planning to stand the trays on their side, I would not advise it.
