And here I thought Alaskan Girls kicked bigger buttā¦
Iām all for reading supernatural and preternatural literature, especially those hinting heart-wrenching sexual tension. It isnāt how good a writer creates an explicit sex scene. Itās how good the writer weaves sexual tension. Thatās the secret to killer reading material. In my extensive reading experience, this was one plot line I had not thought about. Lucifer Morningstarās secret daughter hiding on the mortal plane in plain sight, an orphan of a half-demon orphanage. (Thatās another first in my book! Dammit, Carpenter! Iām glad I met you and your books!) And the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are not meant to destroy us measly Humans but to protect her from⦠well, we donāt know yet, but when someone/something kills Big Daddy, the Immortal Four now have a big job on their hands⦠and that might be not just those who would want to destroy Ruby but Ruby herself.Obviously, this is Book One of a series, but it is a good introduction to our main cast of characters, including a Bean Sidhe (youād know āem as banshees) and a raccoon. Obviously, this is series will be a reverse harem of sorts with hints of Anita Blake rummaging around, but despite its supernatural origins, itās a far more realistic read than the contemporary reverse harem romance novellas Iāve read lately which are pathetically anemic and way too happy happy joy joy for me. More than one unit of testosterone in any given room just does not operate that way.Length: Short novel.Character development: Carpenter makes it easy to start getting under the skin (or is it the reverse?) of the Four Horsemen, and each actually has a name rather than what we mortals have given them. And they are hardly static characters but are being developed deliberately slower than what we see of Ruby. Now Ruby is definitely a handful with her own demons (pardonnez la blague) inside her, and now she has to do a lot more growing up than her just hitting the Big 2-3 (in Human years, of course). Instead of thinking sheās a half-succubus dumped off at the orphanage by her uncaring mother, she is the legendary daughter of Satan Himself, the Lord of Nightmares and such but one who supposedly could not begat a single child. Lots of heavy mysteries to solve, but not necessarily in one novel. But thatās fine with me. Carpenter doesnāt leave you out on a limb.Emotional factor: I think I was hooked within two pages with the character of Ruby. As for which Horseman makes me hot, itās a toss-up between Laran (War) or Julian (Death). Or I just might be greedy and take all four of them. (You have to read the book to understand what Iām talking about.) And somehow, I think the tables are going to turn when the Four Horsemen figure out that it will take everything in their power to control Ruby as she transitions into the Queen of Hell⦠as well as protect themselves from her rather than the other way around.Speed of action: Gallops along well without feeling rushed or slow. Suspenseful! Lots of lustful tension. This is my favorite emotional umami!Predictability: You canāt predict the supernatural. āNuff said.Credibility issues: Nothing jumped out and grabbed me, breaking my suspension of disbelief⦠I think Iām going back and rereading this one again.Grammar and technical errors: None that I can tell.Augh! Now Iām über-pissed because Iāll have to wait for Book Two to come out!! Donāt rush it, Carpenter, because I hate rush jobs, but donāt take your time, either!

Great read
I a very picky reader. I have been reading a lot of dry stuff lately trying to find a good book. I like a good sex scenes but it gets tiring having a book littered with them. It was nice to read a book with a dynamic and juicy plot that was well paced. The love arch isn't forced like most books and I think this gives a realistic take on how a harem would begin. The raw stuff is realistic as well. Not just dirty sex vomit because the write wants to try to enthrall people. I'm trashing on other books because after read this book I realized the other writers were being lazy. Read this book, you will not be disappointed.

A Must Read!!!
Title: Luciferās DaughterAuthor: Kel CarpenterGenre: Adult, ParanormalFormat: Ebook - ARCPages: 178Rating: 5Heat: 5Thoughts: Wow, I could not put this down to save my life! Ruby is badass yet so easy to relate to. And of the four horsemen, itās hard to pick just one. Their personalities are so different yet each one draws me to him. Then thereās Moira, the perfect best-friend, who is snarky and just as protective of Ruby as the horsemen are. Throw in the ātrash pandaāpet named Bandit and it becomes an adventure you wonāt want to miss. Not a cliffhanger, but still has you begging for the next book. A unique storyline with characters you canāt help but love. I very much look forward to reading the next book! Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work and chose to write a review.

Intriguing, I just personally didn't connect...
3.5 stars ā Dudes, this cover is one of the major reasons why I wanted to give this book a try. It truly is amazeballs. And the blurb is hella intriguing too!! I havenāt read a lot of reverse harems, and so why not start with the four horsemen of the apocalypse? š And it was good, it just didnāt blow me away. Part of that is that itās pretty short, and while I was intrigued by where the plot was going, I apparently wasnāt intrigued enough to want to continue. And because it was shorter, it was a lot of introduction, and not a lot of connection for me.Ruby was hella snarky, and I thoroughly enjoyed that. I thought the moral conundrums she faced made for some depth to her character, and was definitely unexpected and appreciated. I will admit the bits we learn about her past in the end caught me by surprise. I wouldnāt have minded if the foreshadowing had been a bit more obvious or somethingā¦but maybe that was just me and I was reading distracted. As for the four horsemen? I didnāt really feel like I had enough time to get to know them that wellā¦I wasnāt really attached to any of them. I thought they were intriguing, for sure, and it was an interesting conceptā¦but I just⦠I donāt know. Maybe it was just me. But not only did *I* not connect with them, I also didnāt see much of a connection between any of them with Ruby. Sure, attraction for sure, but what beyond that? It might come in the next books, but I needed more in this book for me to be invested.I was also not a huge fan of Moiraā¦I donāt know why, but I felt reservations about her. Bandit on the other hand was spectacular. And since I donāt read a lot of paranormal, I felt like while the world was intriguing, I was a bit lost with it all. So many creatures, and not all of the names familiar. So I think the theme for me was a lack of connection. I did connect and enjoy Ruby, but that was about it. Iām sure itāll be a hit for others, it just didnāt have enough of what I was looking for for me to check out the rest.

Fairly good read
No plot spoilersThere is a potential trigger involving attempted rape. That should have been mentioned in the blurb.I can't say I thoroughly enjoyed it, because there were lots of occasions when I put the book down, some of the internal dialogue was superfluous and dragged the plotline down.I didn't form a bond with any of the characters, none of them were truly in depth, no insights as to what formed their personality. Having a pet raccoon that does adorable stuff doesn't make me like the character any more than if she had a pet rat. There is way too much tell and not enough show. It's setting up the next book in the series, so there's no resolution to the plotline whatsoever which is irritating. There is lots of swearing and very little in the way of sex scenes.I don't think I will continue to purchase the series. Although it's a really good concept it wasn't realised in the book, it needed more fleshing out. The four Horsemen came across as quite weak characters too, for someone who is thousands of years old not to understand how the human world ticks isn't really plausible.

Pet raccoon!! Seriously!
This was a pretty good start to a series: magic, mystery, sexual tension, the sassy side kick and a pet raccoon. I read Kel Carpenter's other series, so decided to give this one a go too. I never read reverse harem before, but the story here intrigued me (again, pet raccoon!!), and it didn't disappoint.
