Review: Ushered in the '10s with a resounding bang - During 2009, the year the Great Recession was at its absolute worst point, 22-year-old Ke$ha Sebert, born in California but principally raised in Tennessee, was quietly honing her skills for a release that would completely blow the cobwebs off of the atmosphere of overriding economic gloom and doom that pervaded the climate at the time. That came on New Year's Day 2010, when the new decade and a new era in party dance music was forever ushered in, with the release of her debut full-length "Animal." I first was exposed to Ke$ha's unique craft when I by chance heard "Tik Tok" on the radio for the first time in the car at one point. My jaw literally dropped at what I had just witnessed. It was so refreshing, original, inventive and exciting. She actually spearheaded a whole new genre here, of party-till-you-puke themed, nonstop electro dance-pop music. Just as the similarly-aged Alanis Morissette stormed onto the scene in the mid-'90s, you simply did not have anything like this in music before 2009, making Ke$ha a true breakout phenomenon. I will never understand why "Animal" was rightfully a worldwide multi-platinum smash in 2010, and yet from so many of the reviews you read of it here on desertcart, you'd think it was merely a mediocre release and that its success was undeserved. Nothing could be further from the truth. I just previewed the entire 46-minute disc for this review and didn't count one weak song or moment of filler on it. So many people seem to slam this talented young woman because her lyrics by first appearance seem to endorse a nonstop carefree, drunken, promiscuous, all-day, all-night party lifestyle. Well, to counter this, I think all you need do is look to the bio provided here on desertcart and hear it from Ke$ha herself: "I want my music to be fun, unapologetic, rowdy, quirky, humorous, and interesting, but with substance behind it. I'm an emotional person underneath all my fronting." ...Ke$ha is not just a caricature, she IS a real person, a true talent and a true artist. I think this CD is so entertaining and FUN to listen to from beginning to end. Songs like "Blind" and the title track are showcases for mastermind producer Dr. Luke's ingenious electronic soundscapes and beats. And make no bones about it, the all-time classic "Tik Tok" has forever carved its place a slot amid many an all-night rave or underground dance party's DJ setlist. To close, Ke$ha's almost overnight rise to fame was genuinely exciting and the breakout success story of 2009/10. Not since earlier Avril Lavigne have I felt this passionately about a new female artist's music. No matter what the naysayers who like to slander her have to say, Ke$ha is a worldwide pop music powerhouse that should enjoy a long and fruitful career. Highly recommended!!
Review: Ke$ha is my drug - Animal has to be one of my favorites of the year. I can't stop listening to it. One thing I admire is when an artist releases singles which are a good representation of an album in its entirety. If you don't like clubby up-tempo dance music, then why are you buying Kesha's CD. That is what I expected and that is what Kesha gave me. "Your Love is my drug" was by far my favorite single. It made me actually buy the album. It was soo catchy to my ears. My other favorites are: 1.Blind/Steven/Dancing with tears in my eyes/Animal 2.Backstabber 3.Party At A Rich Dude's House 4.Blah Blah Blah I knew that there were going to be tracks with a much deeper side to them like: "Dancing with tears in my eyes" and "Hungover", which to me provides enough depth for a party album. I have this on in my car and almost all of my friends are now kasha fans, and my mom really likes the song "Stephen". Songs that just piss me off are: "Boots and Boys" and "Take it off" Otherwise, this album is good and I can't wait to get my hands on "Cannibal".

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun party music (is what I think about this cd)
*by V***F on July 5, 2025*

Late to the Kesha party but really enjoyed this early work. Note that 35 years ago I would have enjoyed the song Dinasour a lot more than I do currently at my age. She's on tour in 2025 and I did get tickets and went to the show. The reason I purchased this CD. She was great live. If you are a fan or just enjoy a fun party concert, find her on tour and go.
