## Description

The name "Monitor" adorned the speakers that first made Polk famous. Monitor means simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging (all at a surprising price). This new Monitor is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice-matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish look that complements today's flat screen technology, with wood grain finishes and modern Titanium faces. Built for sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound. Let the 45B reveal the classic Polk sound (open, spacious and clear) in mid- to large-sized rooms (driven by even a modestly-powered amp or receiver). The 45B mounts on the wall, or on stands (available separately).

Review: Beautiful and Effective Bookshelf Speakers - I know many true "audiophiles" will snicker at anyone complimenting the physical appearance of a speaker, as they consider its acoustical performance to be the only thing relevant for discussion. That being said, I wanted a set of good bookshelf speakers that had a real woodgrain finish on the front, as well as the sides. Very few speakers meet that description. Nearly all speakers have black fronts, even if they have wood on their sides. These speakers are very attractive with a wood veneer that wraps around all sides and around the front. Very nice. Now, regarding their acoustical abilities... sound is the movement of air. The more surface area of speaker cone you have, the more air you are able to move. (Forgive me audiophiles... I know that sound quality is dependent upon more than just air movement, and I am over-simplifying it quite a bit... but indulge me.) One way to move a lot of air, is with a huge woofer, measuring 10 inches, 12 inches, or even 15 inches across. Yea... I had a pair of those giant monster speakers back in the 1980's when I was a teenager. Today, I'm in my 40's and I'm not looking for gigantic towering speakers to dominate the room... but I want great sound. These speakers give you TWO (2) sets of main drivers (woofer / mid-range combo speaker cones), each of which are over 5 inches across. Most bookshelf speakers only give you 1 set of drivers. Having two sets of 5+ inch drivers is like having the near-equivalent of a single big 10-inch speaker in terms of the air it can move... but packed down into a much smaller speaker housing. So, with a pair of these, you have a total of four (4) powerful 5+ inch drivers, plus 2 high-quality tweeters. Obviously, these are not super-high-end audio... a quick look at the sub-$200 price point will tell you that. However, for those of us that are not demanding "audiophiles" with deep pockets and a burning desire to drop four figures on a pair of speakers... these speakers are surely the best you can get at... or near... this price point. I am impressed. In fact... I went back and bought another pair of Polk Monitor Speakers.
Review: I like 'em! - I decided to get these as an upgrade to my small "boxy" speakers that were included with my Onkyo CR-445 receiver. I'd like to thank the folks who answered the above question about the speakers' dimensions. These barely fit where I wanted them, but had I gone by the dimensions specified by desertcart, I would have missed out on these! These 150 watt speakers are practically overkill for my little 44 watt receiver, so I do have to crank up the volume a bit more so these speakers can start to breathe, but it is worth it! These speakers have a good amount of bass, so I had to adjust the low pass filter on my Polk Audio subwoofer to balance the lower frequencies out. These speakers don't have the highs that my stock speakers had, but, when I cranked it up, the stock speakers would get a bit shrill, while these simply sound fuller across all frequencies. My Polk Audio 'woofer has lasted roughly six years without any trouble at all, so I expect these will last too.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good sound for the money
*by J***O on November 15, 2013*

A lot of good quality sound for a small package. My living room is not configured for floor-standing speakers so I rely on bookshelf models. These are a big improvement over my current speakers. They sound good to me through all of the ranges and even handle the low end well. The Vine reviewers will give you all the detail you need; I'm just here to tell you that I am pleased with my purchase and do recommend them.
