I don't use it in or on the boat, I place it on the dock or land where ever I am tied up for the night and hook up the cable to my boat's directv receiver in the boat. Works great, you will not get HD channels, but I receive SD and locals which is fine for me while traveling in my boat. Very easy to setup (read the directions). I used to use a portable dish and it was a pain to setup and aim. With this unit i put it on level ground, aim the handle to an approximate north direction, hook up the cable to the receiver, push a button on the units controller and in about 4 minutes I am watching directv. It finds and aims itself to the satellites all by itself. Life is good!!!
