It works well sitting on a table or on the lap. The padding is sufficient for comfort and helps the "desk" stay on the lap. The tablet feels secure from any wiggling or seat shifting because of the "ledge" on which the tablet rests and the non-slip surface toward the top of the platform. I am glad to own and use it especially when using the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 to stream Amazon Prime video in bed. It works on the body or on the nightstand.For my purpose, the desk would be perfect if it were smaller. It is 3.5" wider than the Kindle, and that unnecessary extra size takes precious real estate on my nightstand. I added extra nubs so that the platform could sit a bit closer to vertical: better for bed viewing from the nightstand. While I also find the less expensive  IPAD-ST: Universal Tablet Stand for iPad, Kindle, and Tablet PC  sturdy and useful, the Lapgear Mobile Edesk is far more functional because it adjusts angles and can sit on desk or lap. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Great but... *by P***T on Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2012* I purchased at a local store and liked it for it's size and being very light. It will fit a small laptop quite nicely.I have a 14 inch. It says it will take up to a 15 inch.I liked it so well that I ordered one on Amazon, but the latch would not work and it only opened upon "great" effort,so I returned it and went back to the local store. I bought two more for family and tried those out and 1 out of 3 also had a latch problem where it could not be opened. if it weren't for the latch issure I would give this item 5 stars.Oh by the way this works great to hold your Kindle or nook while reading and has many angles to adjust height.All in all this is a nice laptop desk-but beware of the latch. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Not for me *by S***E on Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2016* This Edesk was to large for my iPad Pro 9.7. In addition the Edesk was slippery and the bottom was not as padded as other reviewers claimed it to be. It also appeared as if I received a "pre-owned" Edesk. The cardboard wrapper was torn and scotched taped back together plus there was what seemed to be some sort of animal hair on the padded side.
