I actually didn't realize that the description says "85 watt" replacement; I think my original bulbs were 65 watt, and all of the BR30 floods I've seen seem to be "65 watt replacements". So yeah, these are definitely bright! - The house had come with Halogen bulbs in the ceiling "pots", and those things generated a *huge* amount of heat - I could feel it even with them up in a 9' ceiling, yikes!!, as if our Gulf Coast climate isn't hot enough already for 320+ days of the year, and as if it's free and of no consequence to waste energy on additional heat (and therefore, ALSO on additional air conditioning)! So I've been replacing all of my light bulbs, even the CFLs, with LED bulbs. - Anyway, so for the kitchen floodlights, I settled on these because the Lumins-Per-Watt seemed to be the most efficient, and because my Significant Other ;) is always fussing about not having enough light. - Well, with these, there is *plenty* of light. I think the "quality"/"color" of the light is the same as the halogens, just brighter. It's a very "smooth" and even light, with no lighter or darker areas. The quality of the bulbs themselves also seems to be excellent. - They are very well-protected in their packaging, although I do wish that the plastic inserts were recyclable. I'll find uses for them, but most people will just throw them away =:( - These *do* take about 1/3 to 1/2 second before they come on; it's that brief of a delay, literally less than a second (I used a stop-watch), so it only takes a few "switch on" times to get used to it. That very slight delay seems to be characteristic of the high-brightness LEDs - my guess is that it simply takes a few milliseconds for the chips to "charge up". - My only real problem was that, although these are "BR30" bulbs, they were just a wee bit too short for my fixtures. On the other hand, my fixtures, installed during construction, are about the cheesiest cheapo junk possible, and *numerous* bulbs I've tried have not fit, so the bulbs are probably fine, and I just ordered 6 extension sockets. It slightly drive up the price of each bulb, but it was less expensive than putting in new fixtures, and I was just fed up with trying to find things to fit the fixtures, so the extenders worked out *perfectly*, because now, the curved surface of each bulb extends juuuuuust a bit down past the lip of the fixture, so there is no "spotlight" effect - the smooth and even light of each bulb does not get "chopped off" by the fixture. - All in all, then, I'm more than happy with these bulbs so far. If they last as long as predicted, they might outlive me, meaning I'll never have to change them again ;) ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars The bulbs are nice and bright *by L***Y on Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2014* The bulbs are nice and bright, but the "neck" is short. It isn't like a typical bulb that you would put in a can light with a trim. In fact, my kitchen which takes a normal br 30 bulb, has trims that do not allow any of these "short neck" bulbs to work. I ended up using them in my kid's lamps. Not to mention the fact that Menards has a typical "long neck" br 30 led for $8.50 which is about $3.00 cheaper per bulb. My advice- go to Menards! At least you can return them if your not happy. Don't buy these! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2014* I was skeptical of the bulb quality, given that they are quite cheap and you get so many, but to my surprise, they are fantastic. They light up as you'd expect, color quality is good, and brightness is spot-on. The only "gotcha" is that the bulbs are about 1 inch or so shorter than traditional incandescent or CFL floods, so they look a little more recessed than usual.
