Comet Original CA-712EFC 460-470Mhz UHF FRS, GMRS Base Station Antenna 10' 5" Connector: Integral N- Female

I had originally hand built a ground plane antenna for my gmrs repeater that I put up as a side project for our community. It worked ok but only covered our town and not much further. I bought this antenna and paired it with LMR 400 coax and the range extended 30 miles out side our area, so definitely a win. Pro's - extended range, swr was great right out of the box. Con's - This is a big antenna at 10.5 feet, for the price I would have expected the center connector where the antenna comes together to be better then just plastic. It just feels cheap and I recommend to only tighten by hand only for fear of breaking it. I put it on a 10ft mast so due to the overall length it does require help to put in place. But with all that said, would I purchase this antenna again.. absolutely. It preforms excellent as a repeater antenna!! Update 2/10/22.. well on the question whether the antenna is durable, I'm going to give it a big YES.. we had 60 mph wind gust today and of fault of my own for not securing the mast properly as I was going to finish it this week end my mast failed. The antenna took a 30ft fall on to my rooftop along with the steel mast weight behind it, landed so hard it drove one of the radials through my roof like a nail. Only damage it sustained was when I had to pry the radial out of the roof. It was bent but was ably to bend it back. No other part of the antenna had any damage. Here I said it was cheap made, I will be taking that comment back now!!!

You won't find a better GMRS base antenna for the price. With 9 dB gain, it is great for repeaters or base operation. My repeater operates on 2 of these, one for transmit and one for receive. I've heard 2 watt bubble pack radios from 12 miles away using one.

This is the best consumer-grade gmrs antenna in its class not only in TX power but received power. I can hear my mother's 5-watt h t nearly full signal strength three miles away in her house and talk back to her with only one watt of power output. Construction quality ease of assembly and installation is all top notch.

So far so good. Swept antenna with nano vna. Came up with a 1.2-1.5 across the gmrs repeater pairs. Good RX on pretty much all of 70cm. A quick note about mounting shroud, I was not able to fit my half inch hardline with N connectors through. Ended up having to use a smaller coax to connect to antenna. Some connectors may fit. Mine didn't.Quality isnt the same as your diamond or better antennas however it also doesnt have the same price tag. Def improvement over my browning vertical. Overall happy with purchase. I will post updates if any are needed. 73.Edit 1RX ability out of band isnt great. Any other uhf antennas I have used have been able to RX 2m traffic. Unfortunately not the case here.

Works perfectly. Antenna resonates at just the right frequencies for GMRS (460-470Mhz). Build quality is great, just what you would expect from a antenna made in Japan. The package also had a sticker at the end of the part number with the letter "C". I belive this was just to save money on packaging the less popular GMRS tuned antenna.

Used a with a home/mobile GMRS repeater. Love the quick set up for mobile ops. Has taken several tumbles (due to my not securing tripod adequate in gale force winds. Keeps going strong. Connector mount is genius. Wish it came with an extra mounting screw or two though!

I ordered the 460-470 but received an antenna that sweeps 450-460. This would have been OK if they hadn't placed a cheap sticker over the original packaging to disguise this deceptive practice. Pure deception! I ordered a GMRS antenna but received a ham head antenna instead - via altered packaging. It's basically two pieces of R8 soldered together with a PVC cover - CHEAP and not worth half what was paid for it. Stay away from Comet and their shady business practices.

Like that I have it up to where to tip of the antenna is at 45’ and can hit a repeater that’s 40 miles away with 10 watts.
